Balneotherapy

Why balneotherapy?

Balneotherapy is a method of rehabilitation in an aquatic environment, prescribed by a doctor when specific functional rehabilitation needs are identified. This treatment uses the therapeutic properties of heated water to relieve pain, facilitate movement, improve muscle and joint function, and encourage a return to an active lifestyle.

We receive you on medical prescription. We provide you with a safe environment, with facilities adapted to optimize the benefits of water in your rehabilitation.

When is balneotherapy recommended?

Balneotherapy is particularly indicated in a number of situations:

  • Chronic or inflammatory pain, such as osteoarthritis, rheumatism or fibromyalgia
  • Following trauma or orthopedic surgery (hip, knee, shoulder prosthesis)
  • Mobility or balance problems requiring gentle off-load work
  • Stabilized neurological pathologies
  • Preventing falls in the elderly
  • Rehabilitation after immobilization or prolonged inactivity
  • Rehabilitation of overweight and obese patients by reducing pressure on joints

Contraindications to balneotherapy

Certain medical situations may make balneotherapy contraindicated. These include

  • Complete or stress incontinence
  • Unhealed or healing wounds
  • Mycosis or local infection
  • Unregulated epilepsy
  • Recent phlebitis

The initial assessment will enable your physiotherapist to verify the feasibility and safety of balneotherapy.

You take charge of your rehabilitation

At CARE, we believe that the success of rehabilitation depends on your active involvement. We guide and support you every step of the way, but you are the one who builds your progress.

Balneotherapy offers you a unique environment in which to regain your confidence, independence and well-being. With exercises adapted to your abilities and attentive listening, you play a full part in your recovery.

How does your balneotherapy treatment work?

Balneotherapy is carried out on medical prescription, generally for a series of 9 sessions, to be completed within 5 weeks in order to be covered by basic insurance (LAMal, accident, invalidity and military). Sessions are group sessions with a maximum of 4 people.

During the first session, a complete individual out-of-water assessment is carried out to evaluate your condition and define your therapeutic objectives. Sessions then take place in our heated pool, under the supervision of a physiotherapist.

It offers a variety of exercises to suit your needs:

  • Gentle mobilization and relaxation
  • Adapted muscle strengthening
  • Balance and coordination exercises
  • Functional unloading thanks to buoyancy

Water reduces pain and stress on your joints, while allowing you to work your muscles efficiently and safely.
